Why Human-Origin Infrastructure?

The digital world is changing rapidly. Artificial intelligence can generate content, operate software, interact with people and participate in digital environments at an unprecedented scale.

As these capabilities grow, distinguishing human-origin participation from automated or synthetic activity becomes increasingly important. This is not simply a question of identifying bots. It is a broader question about trust, human agency and the future relationship between people and the digital systems around them.

How can digital environments recognize human-origin participation while respecting individual privacy?

How can we build trust without creating more centralized identity systems, surveillance mechanisms or databases of personal information?

And how can this infrastructure serve people across different platforms, communities and countries, rather than being controlled by a single ecosystem?

These are the questions that motivate Uniting Users.

A new layer for the internet—not another platform

UU is being developed as a complementary infrastructure layer that can coexist with existing platforms and digital ecosystems. The ambition is not to replace the services people use, but to explore a shared foundation that can help distinguish human-origin participation across the wider internet.

The principles guiding this mission are:

• Human agency: Technology should serve people, not make authentic human participation increasingly difficult to distinguish.
• Privacy: Distinguishing human-origin participation should not require people to surrender their personal information.
• Neutrality: Infrastructure intended for the public should not depend on the interests of one platform or a single company.
• Permissionless participation: The infrastructure is intended to be open to participation across existing digital environments.
• Public interest: The long-term objective is to build infrastructure for people and the wider digital ecosystem, rather than an asset designed solely around private ownership.

These are the principles guiding the development of UU. The protocol is still in its pre-deployment phase, and the work required to turn this vision into functioning, globally deployable infrastructure remains ahead.

Infrastructure of this potential importance should not be a conversation reserved for engineers, technology companies or investors. It is a question that concerns everyone who uses the internet.

The UU Mission begins with a simple idea: infrastructure intended to help distinguish human-origin participation should be built with people and for people.

You do not need to be a technical expert to participate in this journey. You can help by learning about the mission, asking questions, sharing the idea with others, following the development of UU, contributing your expertise or connections, or supporting the work financially if you are in a position to do so.

Every person who helps others understand why Human-Origin Infrastructure may matter can contribute to building awareness around the mission.

The First UU OGs and One Million Founding Supporters

The first 10,000 people who stand behind the mission are intended to become the First UU OGs—the earliest supporters who believed that this infrastructure was worth helping to build.

The longer-term ambition is to bring together one million Founding Supporters.

The idea behind this goal is straightforward: one million people each making a small contribution—one coffee invitation—could help move the project toward making this infrastructure available to the public.

The goal is not simply to raise money. It is to build a community of people who understand why this work matters and want to help make it possible.

Every Founding Supporter will be part of the public story of how UU came into existence and how the mission developed.

The UU YouTube channel is being developed as an open introduction to Uniting Users, the thinking behind Human-Origin Infrastructure and the questions that led to this mission.

Through founder monologues, introductory explanations, progress updates and deeper discussions, the channel will explore:

• The problem UU is intended to address
• How the architecture is being developed
